Old City Canning Co. got its start when our founder was studying for his certified sommelier exam. He used candle oils to train his nose on the various scent notes detectable in wine. After passing his exams (with flying colors), he decided to put all the oils to use by making candles. After years of experimenting and tinkering with various wax blends, he developed a proprietary blend using soy, coconut, and beeswax that throws scent better and lasts longer than 100% soy candles. Now the tables have turned--Stanford uses sommelier training to design the fragrances that go into our candles and home fragrance products. Old City Canning Co. is inspired by the creative revolution that took place in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood in the late 19th Century when crafters and makers flourished and produced some of the world's highest quality handmade goods. Our goal is to take our customers on a sensory journey and produce scented products that are present and inviting, but never over-powering.
